Lyons Gourmet Italian

Smooth, deep, and rather pleasant. Not at all what I was expecting. This is a full flavoured blend but is not too intense nor too harsh or bitter. I like this.

Nescafe Cafe Menu / Gold Double Choca Mocha

Now called Gold, and with a few tweaks, but essentially the same product. I like it. It's a warm milky drink with some mild chocolate and coffee flavours. Mocha is a good name as it's not a coffee, not even a coffee substitute.

Mocha is a milky coffee with chocolate. The coffee is usually a latte (an espresso with more milk than a cappuccino), though it really could be anything, as here, where its an instant coffee. The "double choca" part suggests there is more chocolate than average, though I wouldn't know as a mocha is not one of my usual drinks.

It tastes quite artificial and slightly unpleasant. Think cheap, very cheap, cooking chocolate, and that's the main flavour - with some faint instant coffee powder thrown in. Not good.

Taylors Christmas Blend

I do like a Christmas coffee. For me, it has to be spicy and fragrant, and this one misses out in that department. I like that Taylors are not putting in spices, and using the natural quality of the beans they select, but somehow it just doesn't work. The coffee tastes flat and bitter. I have tried everything to reduce the bitterness.. Using cooler water. Less beans. Less brewing time. But to no avail, the smudgy bitterness remains, and there's little of interest to justify it. Great packet. Great idea. But it simply doesn't work for me.

Sainsbury's Cappuccino Unsweetened

I'm getting a little bored with these creamy instant coffees. This tastes like what it is. Instant coffee with creamer. It's rather weak and wishy washy. No real coffee flavour, more of a watery milky drink with some faint instant coffee flavour. Not good. I think I may now stop buying them.
